I Love Being a Mommy

Hello little blog. It has been too long. Here in the Yeh house…things are beautiful. Stunning. We have been getting a great deal of rain here and I for one have been LOVING it! I think I was really meant to live in Washington State with all the dark, somber rainy days. I adore waking up to the rain streaked windows and the pitter pat of droplets on the roof. Sipping my coffee as Ellie runs around the house chasing Ainsley while pushing her baby stroller filled with amazing treasures. Priceless.

Anyway, if you are reading this you are probably curious what Ellie is up to since I last updated oh-too-long-ago. Well in between working on the cure to cancer and running marathons to raise money for orphans in Africa….she is…well…becoming quite a toddler.

One morning Justin and I woke up and our baby was gone. She was replaced with a little being who is very very aware of what she wants and wants those things like….yesterday. However she doesn’t quite posses the communication skills to ask for those things effectively. Ha. She runs around the house nonstop most days alternating between baskets of toys, “reading” her books, snuggling with Ainsley, feeding Ainsley, getting into Ainsley’s water bowl…

You get the picture. She is a busy bee! And to say she loves her big fur brother would be an understatement.

But a very loving busy bee, she is. She is a snuggle bug and loves to sit in our laps. She adores giving kisses and blowing them too. She likes to give her cousin CJ hugs and “help” him crawl around. She will hug perfect strangers if she likes them. She is just a love bug!

She is very into music and songs. Her favorite book is actually The Itsy Bitsy Spider I think because it’s a song. Though she doesn’t really watch tv…you may see the occasional episode of The Wiggles on in our home (gotta love On Demand!). She likes to dance along  to the music! She likes Toddler Tunes (a toddler music only channel) and loves her bear who sings songs to her. She even spins around and moves her hips!

“Is she talking yet?” you ask. If you mean does she speak in alien-chinese while pointing and gesturing and cocking her head just so as if you should understand her? Then yes, she is indeed talking. If you are asking if she speaks English….not so much. She recently has called me mama a couple times and we are pretty sure she says “that” while she points and possibly “this” as well. Other than that, she calls most things “dah”. She can produce the phonemes /b,p,m,d,t,f,v,s,z,k,g,h,w,n/ which, by the way, is pretty impressive for a 14 month old. Ha ha ha…

However we have been using sign with her and she has several signs that she uses regularly to communicate and that has been WONDERFUL! I do need to get cracking and teach her more!

“How is she sleeping?” you wonder. I have to admit, that I really don’t like this question and I never have. From the time a baby is born, people ask “how is she sleeping?” or “is she sleeping through the night?”. WHY must people feel the need to always ask this? If your child ISN’T sleeping well/through the night it can make a parent feel bad, like they have failed. Then there is the unsolicited advice that is sure to follow if your child is not sleeping up to “par” for his/her age. Usually something in the form of having your child “cry it out” or some other advice you didn’t ask for. Oh well…people mean well…right?

So to answer your question…she sleeps well now. She sleeps through the night happily. In our bed. Yes…I am “that” mom…I am a crunchy, baby wearing, breast feeding, cosleeping hippy mommy. She will one day move out but for now I am enjoying every moment of this amazing stage of our lives. I am so blessed to wake up to a big hug, sloppy kiss, and a snuggle session every morning. I would have it no other way. And some nights when I can’t sleep I just watch her sleep peacefully-her little fingers and eyelids twitching as she dances around through her dreams.

As my life comes to an end long from now…I will never look back and say I held my baby too much, or I slept with my baby too much, or that I gave my baby too much attention. As I type this, I am listening to Ellie’s soft breathing as she naps soundly next to me.

I love being a mommy.
Here she is pointing outside...she points to EVERYTHING! :)

Here she is hanging in the family room...

The many faces of Esella....
Sippy of milk and a toy car....it's all you need in life...right?
